Akureyri International Airport Transfers
After arriving at Akureyri International Airport (AEY), and all your luggage has been collected from the airport's baggage claim area, it is time to transfer to your destination. The options of transfer vary some depending on if you are going to Akureyri or traveling to a more distant location. General options for transfer from the airport are rental cars, public transportation buses, and taxis.
Rental Cars at Akureyri International Airport (AEY)
There are several car rental agencies located at the airport. It is usually possible to book a car through walk-up, but it is recommended to make an advance reservation to make sure a vehicle is available and ready for you upon your arrival. Rental car companies available include Avis, Budget, Europcar (Bílaleiga Akureyrar, Dollar, Thrifty and Hertz.

Public Transportation Buses at Akureyri International Airport (AEY)
A public transportation bus route is operated between the airport and the Campsite with multiple stops in and around the town center. There are at least three departures daily every day of the week. The trip to the center takes only a few minutes. The route from beginning to end takes 35 minutes.

Tour operators may sometimes organize the transfer from the airport. If you are on a chartered trip, please check with the organizer for more information.
Taxis at Akureyri International Airport (AEY)
There is a taxi rank located right outside the terminal's exits. Taxis will be waiting here during the time of scheduled inbound flights. For a taxi during other times it is possible to call BSO, the taxi company, and order one. It is also possible to email them to request a larger vehicle in the case the company is larger than 4 people, or the luggage is too large for a normal car.

Ferries at Akureyri International Airport (AEY)
There are no ferry transfers available at the airport. For those traveling to either the island of Hrisey or to Sandvik on the island of Grimsey ferries are available from locations north of Akureyri.
